Accreditation

The Training Unit is responsible for researching and developing the most effective standards of performance for the Washington Township Police Department in order to improve the delivery of service to the public.

The Washington Township Police Department believes in accountability as individuals and as an organization. As of April of 2010 the Washington Township Police Department has completed the  New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police recognition program from The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). The CALEA credentialing program has become the primary method for an agency to demonstrate their commitment to excellence in law enforcement voluntarily.

The standards upon which the Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is based reflects the current thinking and experience of law enforcement practitioners, researchers, major law enforcement associations, leading educational institutions, training institutions, government agencies, as well as law enforcement executives internationally. CALEA’S Standards for Law Enforcement Agencies and its Accreditation Program act as benchmarks for today’s law enforcement agencies.

Assistance with the accreditation process is gained by joining the
New Jersey Public Safety Accreditation Coalition.  This agency is a member of the coalition and has received logistical support and professional guidance during the accreditation process.
